Listening to What Is

That is the trick. It’s all hidden in plain sight, I like to say.

But we often feel we don’t know how to listen, what to listen to, we don’t like the message, we try to intellectualize or complicate it, or we ignore it. Here’s a few reflections on a walk today where I chose to listen to what my body was calling for and walk instead of keep pushing forward with my work. But once I started walking in nature, I had to listen more. I felt the call to make a video. I didn’t want to. I don’t like making videos, I’d rather just keep to my silence and solitude in nature. But I had to respond to the call.

The first place I stopped I couldn’t find a good location for my phone to record. I wasn’t ready yet. I walked farther up the hill, continuing to marinate in nature and what was being stirred inside for the video. I found a spot calling to me, but I didn’t know if there would be a spot for my phone there either. But I walked toward it and as soon as I crested the hill there was a tree stump just perfect for me to rest my phone propped up against my gloves to record. It would have been easier if I had a tripod and fancy equipment, but as with everything in nature, I had exactly what I needed, as soon as I waited and listened to what needed to happen, at the right time and place.

A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because her trust is not on the branch but on its own wings. Always believe in yourself.
To be yourself requires extraordinary intelligence. You are blessed with that intelligence; nobody need give it to you; nobody can take it away from you. He who lets that express itself in its own way is a ‘Natural Man.
